Quality control (QC) can be considered the foundation of clinical chemistry. No patient’s test should be done until the QC is completed and found within range. So when the QC fails it creates an immediate headache for the medical laboratory scientist working on that bench. Dr. Chatterjee will help relieve the pain that comes with failed QC by providing us with some steps to aid in investigation and resolution of failed QC.

Dr. Chatterjee is a M.D. in biochemistry from India with extensive experience in clinical biochemistry, analytical biochemistry, and basic research in India. She was a consultant biochemist in a diagnostic laboratory and has multiple publications in research journals. After moving to the U.S., Dr. Chatterjee enrolled in and graduated from a MLS program and got her certification as MLS by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Learning Objectives

Accurately use Westgard rules and Levey Jennings chart in clinical chemistry.

Troubleshoot erroneous QC results.

Identify common spurious patient results related to QC.

Marion is a medical laboratory scientist certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She also has a Masters degree in Clinical Laboratory Management and completed a specialist in blood banking certificate program. She has many years experience in the blood transfusion service in the U.S and in Trinidad and Tobago. In addition to the work done at Trinity she is an adjunct immunohaematology lecturer and provides non technical and technical advice to persons in need of blood, medical laboratory technologists respectively.
