About This Course
This course will review advanced phlebotomy skills in the following areas:
- Vein selection/site selection
- Pre and post precautions in needle insertion and removal
- Equipment selection
- Tourniquet pressure
- IV therapy
- Collapsed veins
- Possible steps to prevent hemolysis
Additionally, the course will provide information for more effective communication such as:
- Identifying your own body language
- Understanding how patients perceive you
- Recognizing the importance of treating each patient encounter with empathy and compassion and prioritizing the patient’s needs over your own.

Marion is a medical laboratory scientist certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She also has a Masters degree in Clinical Laboratory Management and completed a specialist in blood banking certificate program. She has many years experience in the blood transfusion service in the U.S and in Trinidad and Tobago. In addition to the work done at Trinity she is an adjunct immunohaematology lecturer and provides non technical and technical advice to persons in need of blood, medical laboratory technologists respectively.
